The aim of the article is to present the role of informal institutions in a Sustainable Economy. It should be emphasized that the occurrence of random and behavioral uncertainty, resulting from the unreliability of the market, prevents resources to be optimally allocated. Those factors disturb stable economic development and contribute to a lack of coherence. The law, contract agreements and the economic rationality are a necessity, but not a sufficient condition for securing economic and social order. Hence, they should be complemented with social capital, which, being an informal institution, is perceived as the main factor making market transactions possible.
