This article is the second part (see 'Onomastica' vol.48 (2003)) of a discussion devoted to the personal names of the population of Polish decent living currently in the area of Balti and Stircea, localities located in northern Moldova. The surnames of Moldova's Polonia are considered. The material collected comprises 251 surnames borne by 790 people. The authoress presents several remarks on the means of adapting the surnames of the population of Polish descent to the system of the Russian language, and later Romanian. She performs sociologico-linguistic analysis on the selected material. In Balti in the Polonian community the surnames with the highest frequency are: Klimowicz (15), Górski (12), Rusnak (10), Borowiecki (9), Sobieszczanski (9), Monastyrski (8), Wojewódzki (8); in Stircea they are: Górski (22), Klimowicz (12), Bogucki (11), Gorodecki (11), Prominski (9), Bielinski (8), Gordynski (8), Jablonski (8), Kochanowski (8), Wojewódzki (8). Analysis of the surnames confirms the fact that to this day Poles live within the territory of Moldova, despite repression and deportation.
