The aim of the paper is to present the issue of standardization of hotel services and to find the answer to the question whether the EU has managed to unify the standardization of buildings where tourists find accommodation in the member states. The authoress draws the following conclusions: classification and categorization in the EU have not been unified. Yet the information about hotels, devices and fire security measures has been provided. Consequently, the Council has issued two legal acts in this respect. None of them has not harmonized the rules of standardization. However, their aim was to make a contribution to the improvement in the quality of hotel services.
