The paper discusses the evolution of the policy of restricted access to information on socialist countries using public and classified Polish Press Agency bulletins dating from 1948 to 1972. Attempts to provide access to information on the internal situation of pro-Soviet countries.are also discussed. These were associated with initiatives taken by the Polish Press Agency and Polish foreign correspondents at three consecutive meetings organised by the Press Office of the Polish United Workers' Party (PZPR) in the period from the late 1960s till the early 1970s.
