Polish society experience processes of modernization, globalization and integration with the European Union. This joins with increase of stress of life events and the necessity to cope and adaptation. From the perspective of health psychology it is essential how individuals mobilize and use resources to overcome the everyday life burdens. The accumulation of life stress as a result socio-economic changes influence the level of health and risk of psychopathology. In the situation of lack or deficit of coping competences the chronic stress create feeling of threat and pessimism. Personal and social resources can prevent negative experience. The comparative investigations of adaptation to life stress of cohorts from 1988 and 1998 show, that the transformations and social changes modify the stress and the processes of coping. The study in 2003 is a continuation of the previous programme. The main question was: Do the macrosocial changes influence the level and structure of stress of life events and the functioning of stress moderators - personal and social resources - in processes of adaptation to changing requirements? The participants were undergraduate state university students: in 1988 - 153 woman and 86 men; in 1998 - 181 women and 136 men; in 2003 - 81 women and 57 men. A set of questionnaires adapted for the Polish-American research project was used. The analysis of results in 1988, 1998 and 2003 show stable processes and relations between variables: stress, appraisal processes, coping and level of health. It was also documented that the effective adaptation depends first of all from sense of coherence and appraisal processes of stress.
