A testimony is a special genre of religious literature used in the circles connected with the Evangelical churches (Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal, etc.) or with some groups active in the Catholic Church. Testimonies can be delivered during religious meetings or they can exist as texts. The article discusses testimonies as texts. The author of the testimony tells about his life. Prior to conversion it was sinful, away from God, lacking joy. After conversion, when Jesus has been recognized as the personal saviour, life became happier in every respect. The objective of the testimony is to encourage others to convert. In any case, irrespective of the ideological attitude, testimonies are an interesting literary and religious phenomenon.
