The paper focuses on the use of assumption analysis in the process of strategic planning. The term of strategic assumption is defined, the taxonomy of assumption presented, and the planning time frame with relation to making assumptions considered. A distinction between operational and strategic planning is proposed. Further, the degree of uncertainty and significance of assumptions are discussed. The analysis of uncertain assumptions exerts a particular influence on effective planning and enables elaboration of a scanning system measuring correctness of the assumption made.
