(1). The Bulgarian Code on Private International Law of 2005 is one of the newest national acts on private international law in Europe. It is the first Bulgarian regulation of laws governing the conflicts of laws in one statutory instrument. The provisions of the Code are similar or even identical with the Rome Convention, the Brussels I Regulation and some of the Hague Conventions. The Bulgarian Code is composed of four parties. Part One includes the basic provisions, like the scope of the Code and some basic principles, for example the closest connection principle, which is one of the most important principles of the Bulgarian private international law system. Part Two of the Code regulates the international jurisdiction of Bulgarian courts and other authorities as well as proceedings in international civil matters. Part Three of the Code provides the applicable law. Moreover it introduces several important definitions like the qualification, remission to Bulgarian law and transmission to the law of a third State. The last Part of the The Bulgarian Code on Private International Law concerns the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and other authentic acts. The Bulgarian Code on Private International Law of 2005 brings many substantial changes in the Bulgarian legislation that was prior to it. (2). The Polish translation of the Bulgarian Code on Private International Law was published in this Volume (pp 251-281)
