This article contains an analysis of sings of language etiquette created in 'The Teutonic Knights' - the last of great historical novels by Henryk Sienkiewicz. The system of formulas and good manners presented in the novel is differentiated and includes: 1. forms of address (titles, proper and common names; grammar expressions, e.g. pronouns: 'my' (we), 'ty', 'wy' (you); 2. formulas referring to a particular pragmatic situation (e.g. greeting, farewell, swearing). This research also includes descriptions of extralinguistic behaviour.
