Since the period of the great colonisation in 13th century, the district of Děčín in North Bohemia was settled mostly by German inhabitants. Thousands of minor place- -names came into existence in the extremely rugged terrain. The continuity of their use was broken by the displacement of the inhabitants in 1945. Since this time, German names have not been used any more; they have been substituted by the Czech forms. However, by the mediation of some witnesses of the period before 1945, some old names came to general knowledge of new inhabitants. The article focuses on the minor place-names that came into existence spontaneously after 1945 and are based on the original forms of German names.
