Before the era of corpus linguistics the selection and processing of dictionary entries was based on an arbitrary decision of the author to a great extent. Corpora brought with them relatively objective language data and permitted the judgement of quality of dictionaries. The paper compares 5 pocket bilingual dictionaries from the perspective of corpus linguistics pointing to the most obvious discrepancies between them and language data in corpus of the Czech language.
