It is usually the first edition of a book that takes as a significant place in the history of a particular area of knowledge. In the case of the translation studies classic, Andrei Fedorov’s “Introduction in Translation Theory” (1953), its second, revised 1958 edition is no less significant. Free from references to Stalin’s ideas on translation (compared to the first edition), being more elaborated and still containing all the exhaustive definitions of the first edition, it can not only be read as a basis for a general translation theory, but also used as a handbook of translation practice.
