The purpose of this article is characteristics of state activities for the protection of archaeological sites in the Kingdom of Poland. This realm, because of the political situation, was controlled by Russian regulations, whose enactment was managed by tsarist state administration. In the field, the control over monuments was exercised by the governor with support of district chiefs and local police. Collection of information was managed by the Ministry of Interior that ordained cyclical stocktaking of archaeological sites. Moreover, down through administrational levels, the Ministry transmitted regulations concerning protection of monuments. Their traces have been found in some Polish state archives.
