Pathological gambling represents a growing public health risk. The study after the survey of the main etiopathological factors analyses the learning and cognitive processes, being crucial in the development and maintenance of the disorder. The most important cognitive distortion is the belief of the gamblers that they can control the game and predict the result. The cognitive approach to pathological gambling made it possible to evaluate adequate cognitive interventions, effectiveness of which has been proven.
