Głównym celem artykułu jest prezentacja najważniejszych kierunków i koncepcji pionowej specjalizacji oraz globalnych łańcuchów wartości dodanej w kontekście handlu międzynarodowego. Wyodrębniono dwa główne nurty badawcze i przedstawiono ich ewolucję. Pierwszy wywodzi się z teorii handlu międzynarodowego, drugi z nauk o zarządzaniu i teorii przedsiębiorstwa.

The main aim of this article is to present the main lines and the concept of vertical specialization and global value-added chains in the context of international trade. Distinguished two main strands of research and presented their evolution. The first derives from the theory of international trade, the second of management science and theory of enterprise.
