The paper is devoted to an organizational and methodological approach to business surveys in the Research Institute of Economic Development. The readers are acquianted with a procedure and organization of studies in industry, agriculture, consctruction, trade and among households' members. Some common features and differences in a mode of studies, ways of their financing and distribution of questionnaires among respondents were introduced. Also questions of sample, representation, questionnaires return, obtaining of responses from reliable sources and weighting of responses were treated. The paper's author, who initiated expanding business studies area in early '90s specifies RIED publications containing particular surveys' findings (RIED bullerins, Papers on Economic Outlook of the Polish Economy, some publications in the series Works and Materials of RIED). A big part of the paper contains a description of the Institute's cooperation with different international ogranizations in the field of economic outlook studies (CIRET, IFO, OECD, CCEET, Eurostat). Within a framework of this cooperation in the RIED representatives participated in the conferences organized by the above institutions in Munich, Bratislava, Poznań, Tallin, Sofia and in the congress in Budapest, Cape Town, Singapore. Goals, research programs, final conclusions reached at these conferences (among others, a need to harmonize economis outlook studies in the Central and East European countries with those in the European Union countries) were presented in annexes to the paper. The most urgent matter relating to the harmonizaton would primarily concern a unification of questionnaire contents, common shedule of questionnaires sending and obtaining of results as well as use of the same computational procedures to generate composite indicatos binding in the studies conducted in te European Union countries.
