This paper presents the topic of the house and home in works of Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz. Author of this article found this motif in diaries, letters and Niemcewicz’ poetry. The topic of home in polish literature after 1795 became very significant due to political situation in Poland. After 1795 Poland disappeared from the map of Europe, and the Polish lands were divided between three superpowers: Russia, Austria and Prussia. Poland survived thanks to its culture and cultivated traditions. This paper describes one of the most popular poem of Niemcewicz, Śpiewy historyczne (1816). In this poem Niemcewicz presented his own vision of Polish history, the main events, important heroes and soldiers. The author of this paper presents this poem as a great metaphor of Polish traditional and symbolic home. The works of Niemcewicz became a great inspiration for many writers in Poland and abroad. Russian writer Konrad Rylejew had been translating different Polish literary works in 19th century. He created poems based on Niemcewicz's Śpiewy historyczne. This article introduces to Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz, an extraordinary man and a faithful citizen of Poland.
