The article presents data related to elicitation of emotions of automatic vs. reflective origin. 36 women (19-27 years old) participated in the the fMRI study. Words (used in the parallel behavioral studies – Imbir & Jarymowicz 2011a; b) were applied - to elicit two categories of emotions: the automatic emotions (homeostatic ones) vs. reflective emotions (related to the ideal Self standards). The hemodynamic reactions’ contrasts analyses suggest connections between (1) the automatic emotions with the occipital lobe and the reflective emotions with the OFC, and (2) negative emotions with the (bilateral) cingulate cortex, whereas positive emotions with the (bilateral) OFC and the temporal right lobe.
