The study explores the presence of sacred elements in literature, with a focus on the influence of psalms on the poetic works of P. O. Hviezdoslav. It analyses how the biblical hymns shape the emotional and thematic dimensions of his poetry, particularly in addressing national and social issues of the time. The study also considers the broader cultural and historical context that influenced Hviezdoslav’s writing, demonstrating how these spiritual elements resonate with the collective consciousness of the Slovak nation. Hviezdoslav draws deep inspiration from biblical texts, using them to express his profound spiritual connection with God, creating powerful parallels between the Old Testament psalmist and the struggles of the Slovak people at the end of the 19th century. The collection „Psalms and Hymns“ not only reflects the author‘s personal piety but also enriches the spiritual and artistic landscape of Slovak literature, offering a unique synthesis of religious and national.
