Poles and the Polish Language in the Zhyomyr Region

Abstracts
On the basis of historical, linguistic, sociological researches and archival materials (the retrived population censuses from the end of the 19th century) the question of Polish language functioning and the level of its preservation among the Ukrainian Poles at Zhytomyr region is discussed in the article. The review of dialectological researches of Polish dialects at this territory is done. The generalized description of the genesis and history of the Polish settlements’ development on the territory of the modern Zhytomyr region from the second half of the 18th century up today is presented.
