This article highlights the problem of russianization of Ukrainian personal names based on an analysis of polish press. The main focus of attention is the extralingual nature of the changes which exhibit traits of russification and have occurred within the Ukrainian personal naming system in soviet times, as well as the effects of this process today. I present a table comparing polish transcriptions of popular Ukrainian personal names with their Russian counterparts. Furthermore this articles discusses the intralingual conditions of the russianization of Ukrainian names when they are reproduced in Polish: The different adaptation of christian names in the Ukrainian and Russian personal naming system, which has a direct impact on the expression of Ukrainian and Russian variants in Polish, as well as the basic differences in the transcription of Ukrainian and Russian Cyrillic scripts.
