The article discusses the functional scope of the SEPA initiative, focusing on its legal as well as technical and IT aspects. In the first case, the Author addresses EU legislation, which constitutes SEPA’s foundation. The second part of the discussion focuses on those of the system’s mechanisms which are responsible for the security, speed and reliability of payments’ transfer in SEPA countries.
