The periodical Samorząd Miejski was published regularly from May 1921 until the outbreak of World War II. The first part of the article outlines the role local government played on the Polish press market in the interwar period. This is followed by an account of the origins of the Samorząd Miejski (closely connected with the early days of the Association of Polish Cities and the activities of Adolf Suligowski) and a survey of its history under the editorship of Leon Władysław Biegeleisen, Henryk Grotowski, Władysław Kozłowski, and Marceli Porowski. The article assesses the impact of its successive editors and regular contributors on the profile of Samorząd Miejski and its thematic preferences. This assessment is rounded off with a formal analysis of the periodical’s editorial profile and a brief survey of its themes
