This study focuses on a young discipline called harness dance, sometimes also referred to as vertical dance, aerial dance, or wall dance. In this discipline, dancers use a static rope and a special body harness to secure themselves while they move. The locking mechanism allows them to reach different levels of height, adding a new spatial dimension to their movement portfolios. The main hypothesis assumes that the technical aspects of space and the type of harness used fundamentally influence the movement capabilities of dancers and thereby shape the form of this discipline. In the context of practical artistic research, different types of spaces and harnesses were analysed to map their influence on dance movements. The study describes these influences and the dance methods that vary depending on the conditions, confirming the potential for harness dance to take on diverse forms according to the factors at work. The research confronts the author’s personal experience with specialist literature and interviews with other artists.
