The paper briefly summarizes the existing terms dealing with alternative forms of economic systems and alternative models of agriculture and farming. In the first part it addresses the concept of alternative or community economy and market economy highlighting their overlapping character in the social reality. The second part of the paper is dedicated to description of the known models of local economic structures, such as Local Exchange Trading Scheme, Time Bank, Community Banks, Credit Unions and Community Business. The description includes explanation of their principles as well as identification of possible impacts on the community life and development. Next chapter provides information regarding the alternative agriculture and its existing forms and farming practices, such as Organic Farming, Bio-Dynamic Farming, No Tillage Farming, Urban and Periurban Farming, Natural Farming, Eco-Farming, Permaculture, Integrated Farming System, Floating Farms and Community Supported Agriculture. These farming practices are characterised in opposition to the conventional agriculture and farming methods. Finally, the authors emphasize the necessity to follow the principles of sustainable development using also alternative schemes of economy, agriculture and farming.
