The article discusses the nature and importance of professional competencies of agricultural advisers. The issues that have been taken in the consideration are the concept, nature and characteristics of a competency model. The paper is also an attempt to explain the importance of the agricultural advisory process. A summary characterization of the agricultural adviser competency model was presented, which was the main purpose of this article. It was created in response to the increasing need to systematise the existing knowledge on the skills of professional advisers - consultants.
