This study describes and compares selected aspects of four bachelor’s and master’s programmes in dramaturgy at four different universities in Europe – the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre of the Theatre Faculty of The Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Goethe University Frankfurt, the Theatre Academy of The University of the Arts Helsinki, and the Theatre Faculty of Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno. Based on differently conceived relations between institutions of theatre education and professional theatres, it identifies two possible strategies of dramaturgical education. Using concrete examples from curricula, the paper demonstrates the influence of these strategies on the form of studies.
