Abstracts
The Georgian War (2008) was one of the most important conflicts which occurred after the end of the Cold War. The Russian Federation showed that it was able to use its military force to gain its political and geostrategic aims. The intention of the author is to emphasize the military aspects of the war. The paper shows, of course, the draft of the political situation, but the main part is devoted to describing military actions. The author presents the Georgian offensive against South Ossetia and the reaction of the Russian Armed Forces. The background is created by description of the Georgian Armed Forces and the military potential of Russia which was dislocated in the southern part of the country and in the North Caucasus. The end of the article consists of general conclusions of the conflict and predictions for the future.
