The aim of the article is to bring together in a systematic way Władysław Stróżewski’s philosophical reflections about love. Even though they doubtlessly play an important role within his philosophical thought, they never received a comprehensive articulation by the author himself. On the basis of a number of his texts, it can be concluded that the essential way of being for love is being a value. For the author of the Logos, wartość, miłość (Logos, Value, Love), this value has several crucial features, such as, for example, its formative character when it comes to the two sides of a relationship, its sense-making function in human life, the lack of self-sufficiency which makes it look for fulfillment outside of itself, its dialectical relationship with freedom, and its ability to create new qualities, connected with its demand to be actualized. An analysis of the Polish philosopher’s writings reveals that he was concerned with three kinds of love: for another human being, for one’s homeland, and God’s love for humanity and the world. The first type is analysed from four perspectives: axiological, ontological, phenomenological, and psychological. The second type is described by Stróżewski through the concept of patriotism, of which he attempted to give a regulative definition.. About the third form he was most enigmatic, but he emphasized the influence of God’s love on the work of creation. The article also points out the sources of Stróżewski’s ideas about love, such as Plato’s Symposium, Jolanta Brach-Czaina's Szczeliny istnienia (The Fissures of Being), the poetry and prose written by Cyprian Norwid, and the Holy Bible. All these, in their different ways, inspired Stróżewski to come up with his own, original reflections on the sense and essence of love.
