The similarities between St. Constantine-Cyril and St. Gregory of Nazianzus in their studies, attitudes and arguments against their opponents are not unknown to researchers. In terms of Constantine’s life and works researchers pay attention mostly to the reflection of Gregory’s panegyrics as well as his autobiographical poem De vita sua. However, a certain influence on Constantine can be seen in a wider spectrum of Nazianzen’s poetic works. The study particularly focuses on the poetic letters of Gregory of Nazianzus and their reflection on Constantine. The letters resonate with longing for spiritual life in solitude, the question of the importance of the Bible but also love for wisdom, knowledge and for the gift of the word. Both saints emphasized that without knowing it is not possible to develop true religiousness and improve faith and they both wholeheartedly fulfilled their desire to be servants of the words/the Word.
