W dobie rozwoju technologii informacyjnych wyłania się nowe rozwiązanie strukturalne, określane jako zespół wirtualny. Krytyczna analiza literatury pozwoliła autorkom zdefiniować skuteczności wirtualnych zespołów oraz wskazać na potencjał drzemiący w zespołach wirtualnych, który może być wykorzystany do poprawy efektywności organizacji. Uważa się, że skuteczne zespoły wirtualne umożliwiają organizacjom szybsze dostosowanie się do globalnej gospodarki i zmniejszenie kosztów operacyjnych organizacji. Badania wskazują także, że z punktu widzenia skuteczności międzynarodowych zespołów wirtualnych niezmiernie ważne jest zrozumienie roli, jaką odgrywa lider w ich funkcjonowaniu.

In the era of information technologies a new structural solution emerges, known as a virtual team. Basing on critical analysis of literature the article aims to answer the questions concerning effectiveness of virtual teams and whether the use of virtual teams leads to greater efficiency of organizations. Authors point at potential benefits associated with the use of this form of cooperation, potential of virtual teams, which can be used to improve efficiency of organizations, and define the effectiveness of virtual teams. It is believed that virtual teams enable organizations to adapt quickly to the global economy and to reduce their operational costs. Research indicates that in order to build effective virtual teams it is extremely important to understand the role of leadership in these teams.
