Pedagogy as a practical domain is also interested in helping people. The article is particularly devoted to help through health education and social support in difficult situation. In the text the difficult situation is defined as critical event concerning either an objective occurence (e.g. chronic disease) or any other situation evaluated as „difficult”, „new” or causing anxiety. The purpose of pedagogic action is, among others, providing social support being approppriate to the needs, and educating supported person on experienced difficulty so as they could deal with given situation and could be aware of their potential and abilities. The final result of the help is the situation when supported person feels responsible for their health and life and acquires the skill of caring about themselves understood as selfcare. In the article the notion of selfcare is examined in three dimensions: caring about health, relationships with other people and feeling of safety.
