A solid historical monograph on The Society of Fighters for Freedom and Democracy (Polish: ZBoWiD) characterizing its development and activities during the period of PRL (People's Republic of Poland) has not been written as yet. Except for the work of Joanna Warzywniak titled: "ZBoWiD i pamięć drugiej wojny światowej 1949-1969" ("ZBoWiD and the Memories of the Second World War 1949-1969") there is little that is known about its central operation as well local operation in particular voivodeships. One should also bear in mind that the dissertation mentioned above focuses mostly on sociological aspect and does not exhaust the topic. The process of internal verification of the prospective members of the association, which still has not been analysed, also constitutes a problem. This article attempts to make the analysis as well as to make the reader acquainted with the criteria for affiliation with the association. Apart from the interpretation of the regulations of acceptation issued by the Management Board of ZBoWiD, I also present the capacity of the Main Verification Board. Furthermore, I researched the operation of the district verification board in the Board of Voivodeship ZBoWiD in Lublin in order to present the mechanisms of operation of such a mass organization as ZBoWiD was, in the context of the process of verification of the members.
