Professor František Miko with his innovative works has influenced originally formation of many branches of Slovak linguistics as well as other related scientific disciplines (literary sciences, semiotics, theory of translation etc.). In morphology his sense for innovation in a grammatical thinking has revealed. He fundamentally influenced a change of paradigm of the Slovak morphology (establishment of the morphological semantics as against the traditional, formal morphology), in the system of adverbs he has innovatively distinguished the adverbs of consideration. He significantly intervened in the study of syntax, mainly with his delimitation of complex sentences, study of sentence as a textual and semiotic item, and mainly with his first and still unsurpassed attempt at complex description of Slovak syntax by methods of generative grammar. But the basic subject matter of Miko's scientific work was stylistics where he has formulated an expressive conception of style (defining items more elementary then the style and creating a new terminological system), paradigmatic dimensions of style as against characteristics of a concrete style, primary and secondary styles, transposition of colloquial style into the sphere of other communication types (colloquialism) and textuality and metatextuality (connection of stylistics with a theory of text). Miko's methodological trajectory goes through structuralism, post structuralism and logical positivism as well, but at the same time he took intuition and other concepts of phenomenology into account, too.
