The article is aimed at analyzing the phenomenon of solitude as a factor that determined the fate and works of Boris Popłavsky – a talented and tragic poet of „the first wave of Russian emigration”.In the course of analysis it was established that the source of loneliness for the author ofФлаги was his unhappy childhood and lack of spiritual bonds with his closest surroundings. It also resulted from the poet’s enforced emigration (solitude as exile), as well as rejection from the older generation of emigrants – those who decided about publishing matters. The last type of loneliness in this articlediscussed – isolation and alienation – is connected with the artistic activity of B. Poplavsky.
