The semantics of lameness in Shevchenko’s poetry has been presented based on the works of the first and second period of his creativity. Not only does it bring forth human suffering marked by blindness, mostly in the example of a kobzar, but also the tragedy of the society experiencing the fall in history. Shevchenko’s concept of body includes the idea of the unity of a hero and history of the country which is further manifested in lameness and the inability to achieve happiness. The evolution of lameness includes romantic heros marked by suffering and the blindness of the society and goes round in circles.
