Autor artykułu nawiązując do opublikowanych w 1994 r. przez prof. Józefa Kargula dylematów ówczesnej andragogiki, podejmuje namysł nad niektóry- mi z nich w perspektywie rozwoju andragogiki w minionym ćwierćwieczu. Swoją uwagę skupia głównie na problemach budowy teorii i tożsamości dziedzinowej an- dragogiki jako nauki. Konstatuje, że kształtowanie się teorii andragogicznej zdomi- nowały potrzeby rozwoju praktyki edukacyjnej; pomijana jest kwestia wychowania dorosłych. Postuluje położenie większego nacisku na kolejność rozwoju dyscypliny: najpierw teoria, potem praktyka edukacji dorosłych.

By referring to dilemmas of then andragogy published by Professor Józef Kargul in 1994, the author of the article takes a reflection on some of them in the perspective of the development of andragogy in the past quarter of a century. He focuses his attention mainly on the problems of building the theory and the domain identity of andragogy as a science. He states that the formation of andragogical theo- ry has dominated the needs for the development of educational practice; the issue of adult education is being overlooked. He postulates a greater emphasis on the order, in which the discipline develops: first the theory, then the practice of adult education.
