The article is devoted to Hrabina Cosel (1873), one of the most popular historical novels by Jozef Ignacy Kraszewski. The aim of this publication is to show different strategies and translation procedures on the basis of two translations of the work. The former is an anonymous translation, drawn up by Elfriede Bergman, edited in (21988) in East Berlin. The latter, however, was prepared by Hubert Sauer-Žur and came out in Berlin in (102007). The main part of this article constitutes the analysis carried out on the basis of the selected fragments of the original text and target texts, illustrating the problem of translability of the names for realities such as court titles, historical personal names and forms of address, among other things.
