The article presents academic and research activities of Professor Tadeusz Marian Nowak within the Polish Academy of Sciences` Committee of the History of Science and Technology since 1990 until 2010, that is in the period when I held the post of the chairperson of this multi-specialised body of academics and Prof. Nowak held the post of its deputy chairman. T.M. Nowak collaborated very actively and fruitfully with the Editing Committee on the series Essays on the History of Science and Technology, published by the Committee. Not only has he published two excellent individual syntheses on the history of the military technology, but he also significantly contributed to the publishing of two multilingual source publications, which required an in-depth substantive and editing knowledge and the command of both modern and ancient languages (Latin and Greek). It must be stressed that this work, which he managed to complete within a few months, was performed anonymously, pro publico bono, and he revealed his name only as the editorial reviewer. Prof. Nowak was also the co-author of two other important academic works published by the Committee apart from its series which present the contribution of two spiritual orders, the Piarists and the Jesuits, to the Polish science and culture in the period XVIth-XIXth centuries. T.M. Nowak's duties also included the preparation of publishing reviews concerning the history of technology and cartography. The history of cartography, Tadeusz M. Nowak's second passion after the history of military technology, became evident during the course of his work for the Committee.
