Marián Amsler is one of the most progressive Slovak directors of the middle generation. His work has earned him a high reputation in the Slovak and the Czech theatre environment. He regularly works in mainstream theatres, but he is also able to adapt his directorial means and method of creation to independent and even experimental theatre scenes. The presented paper deals exclusively with Amsler‘s work in Slovak institutionalised theatres. Using specific production examples, it examines his dramaturgical direction, style of direction, and thematic orientation with an emphasis on the theme of social and private values.
