Some Linguistic Traps in Translating Texts in IT Sector

In this article the author deals with the subject of language pitfalls lurking behind the translator of technical texts, in particular, the texts of the IT area. Particularly noteworthy are the lexical issues, including phrases and expressions understood only among a narrow circle of specialists, including translators who find it difficult to translate them or even doubt whether to do it or not. No less important are the issues of spelling and the style of the text. Referring to specific examples the author draws attention to the translation layer which apart from conveying the content substantially, plays also an equally important role. Among the highlights, it is worth to mention the convention of writing special characters, numeric values, forms of personal and possessive pronouns, acronyms, forms the present and future tenses, as well as jargon expressions, slang or colloquial speech. These naturally are some of the items which require special attention on the side of a translator.
