PARENTHOOD OF PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY IN THE CONTEXT OF CONTEMPORARY PARADIGMS OF SPECIAL PEDAGOGY

As we move forward to support people with intellectual disability to participate in all facets of social life, more and more of them express the need and become parents. The author analyzes new trends in the attitudes towards the parenthood of these people and stresses both the challenges that many of these parents face and their possibilities. She describes some changes in the area of theory and practice of special pedagogy, focusing on its social, emancipatory, normalization and interpretative paradigms in the context of parenthood of people with intellectual disability.
