The article considers a possibility of social workers’ functioning as so called agents of social change in Polish socio-political conditioning. The process of professionalisation of Polish social service occurs in a context of its structural limits. Social work is perceived mainly from the perspective of a social support institution. It is a process aimed to achieve a planned social change focused on improvement of the problem solving and prevention skills inherent in every human being.
