For more than a decade young mothers increasingly frequently tour museums together with their pre-kindergarten age small children. This is a question of both greater awareness, a willingness to stimulate the child’s development from the youngest age, the technical facilities offered by museums, predominantly escalators and ramps, cafes adapted to the needs of the little client and the new attitude of the museum staff towards such young visitors. The MIŚ programme was devised and implemented by the author of the article in 1997–1998 at three Warsaw museums: Railway, Technology and National (Gallery of Mediaeval Art). Actually, this is more of a lifestyle idea and an element of the child’s growth than an institutionalised form of the activity of the museum. The young mother who wishes to enhance the development of her child by going to a museum must be interested in a concrete museum and should visit it as regularly as possible. She should also talk to the child about it and discover many reference sin daily life to what they saw at the museum (at this stage, the mother’s knowledge about the surrounding world is totally sufficient). A museum tour could inspire interesting tours of other places, e.g. a train trip, and result in well-conceived purchases of toys referring to the museum experience.
