The paper reconstructs the current status of the University in the context of today’s educational policy of the European Union. That policy is subjected to the principle of effi cient management, which presupposes the strict control officiated by political institutions. Hence the University looses its primary role as an agent of freedom and agent of truth. The present study calls for re-introduction of Neohumanistic understanding of academic education and of the University as such.
