Old people are an integral part of society. The way of perceiving them determines the quality of life of not only people currently experiencing the last stages of their existence but also of those people who will only exceed the threshold of an old age in several or even several dozen years. On account of that, it is extremely important to shape a positive picture of autumn of life at its each stage. This article is based on my own research and it presents the picture of an old age in the perception of students from grammar schools. By paying special attention to the fact that school environment, in part of which, core curricular of Polish language teaching are realized, it fulfills a signifi cant opinion-forming role. Based on an analysis of syllabuses and chosen text-books, it was stated that the issues of an old age appears more often “when the opportunity arises” individual motifs, for example, a motif of death. In spite of this, you can talk about the shaping of the picture of an old age based on literary texts, learned as part of Polish studies education, which are proved by the results of a survey conducted among students. Unfortunately, in reply to the question: does the educational system as one of important centers shaping societal awareness, favors the decreasing of intergenerational gape and forming positive attitudes towards older people, one has to determine that in this scope of possibilities which are connected with Polish studies education which are not used.
