The article deals with the question of creative consumption. Starting with some selected concepts of consumption, I focus mainly on those emphasizing creative features of consuming (Colin Campbell, Daniel Miller, Michel de Certeau). When discussing contemporary consumer choices, it is in my opinion particularly important to make use of Campbell’s notion of cra consumption. I argue that Campbell’s proposal appears to be a useful tool in analyzing contemporary foodways and culinary practices. Moreover, the culinary aspect of cra+ consumption draws attention to a wider context of the eatingsituation (and its stylization), properly corresponding to the Simmelian idea of a meal.
