The aim of this article is to present several portraits of Poles and Germans in the Polish-language prose of the Galicia region in the second half of the 19th century, and to demonstrate their connection to the issues of colonialism. On the example of the prose of Józef Rogosz and Ignacy Maciejowski the author of the article shows that sometimes terms relating to culture, civilization and race were used to construct portraits of both nations. Thus, they perfectly fit strongly ideologized nationalistic discourse of colonization nature and reflect the anti-Polish attitudes prevailing at that time in the countries of the German cultural circle.
