Ideas regarding new methods of management introduced into the public sector are also being implemented in the health service institutions in Poland. In this article the author begins with a discussion on the genesis of New Public Management going back to the Chicago School of liberalism, the $atcher doctrine and so-called reaganomics. She further elaborates on the promises, bene(ts and threats of these new rules for patients and society as a whole. At the end, some questions for further discussions are put forward.
