This article presents the income situation of Eastern Poland districts (with particular emphasis on the income which the districts acquire so as to assign it to carry out their tasks next). It was shown, on the example of the least developed part of Poland, that these districts carry out fundamental tasks in order to meet the needs of their residents and local development. Every year the amount of expenditure is rising and the share of current expenditure is growing at a faster rate than the revenue growth. This is all the more important that the area of the districts, due to the geographical location and natural wealth, provides opportunities for tourism development. On the other hand classifying the substantial part of the area as a protected zone prevents or restricts economic activity in other sectors. 39 To achieve the goal of the paper the legal basis for the operation of the administrative units is presented, the characteristic of the districts bialski, łosicki and siemiatycki is enclosed, including demographic and economic situation and natural environment issues
